If you want a proper soft lock (provided by the wheel software and not kunos's) you need to set your game to the same rotation limit as your wheel

Theg27 has a shortcut, if you press the second and third red button on the shifter and the upper buttons you can change the lock, each upper buttons is a different degree, the lower is 900°. It's probably this. Had it happen a few times, especially when it has been plugged off and then back in.
